Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state early analysis show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative said the incident rendered him stunned and required to be solved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
