Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, over half a second behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
